The sheer Maxi Skirt is a big trend in this year's spring/summer fashion. Many blogs and fashion websites predicted it. For example, Fashion, Lauren Conrad, Mod Cloth, Go Jane, just to name a few. And although it is a little Risque for my taste it is very popular. Pioneered by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen it's going to see it's self through summer. Like I said, it's a little showy but it's able to be pulled off.
Tassels are trend number 2 that stood out. I know what you are thinking...those are only for graduation right? WRONG! It's a symbol of luxury, not just for graduation or a furniture decoration. Tassels on leather accessories like handbags or purses are very in, but they are also on shoes to belts to hats. Just give the trend a chance! It does wonders to add little things with a little bang!
Number 3 Trend that has manged to get my eye is Wide-leg pants. Skinny jeans have been in forever, it's about time they loose their appeal. Even though every girl must own at least 1 or 2 pairs doesn't mean her whole closet has to be filled with them. Keep in mind not everyone can pull off Wide-leg pants (don't listen to the talk shows like the Today Show). You should have an hour glass shape, or at least that would be best. If they are wide at the top down to just the thigh, they tend to look baggy. Even though the Wide-leg pant won't be a staple of 2011 don't overlook it, especially when styled right.
Surprising trend number 4, Pleats! Why this is so surprising I have no idea, it seems like they have been in all the time. They just also seem very old fashioned. There is always something that shows up on the runway that pleated, but it's always different. What is the pleat gonna be in 2011? Knife pleats. Confusing right? Knife pleats are single pleats that all go in the same direction. Boring but it actually looks kinda cool. When your looking for a statement item, go for something with Knife Pleats, a dress would be even better. Play with the lightweight fabrics too, Fabrics like crepe and silk tulle and anything that's to the sheer side is particularly on-trend. Pleats can go all year around but be careful, fashion is a funny thing. You have to have Independence but in order to fit in in the fashion world you have to conform.
Accessories
Cat eye sunglasses!
Love them. How can you not? I do my eyeliner cat eye so it will be fun to have something to take the shape of that. It's a '50 phenomenon making it's way back, and I absolutely love when clothes and accessories do that. Vintage shops are my haven. It works wonders for the square and diamond shape face. My face is oval so i can wear anything (thank goodness)! They do an amazing job to block out the sun as all sunglasses should, but they do an amazing job of just adding flare to your wardrobe to that outfit too. How can you go wrong?
Fanny Pack...we all shutter at that term right? It lacks elegance, and we think of our butt too and well we shutter. Now we are calling it the belt purse, it takes on a new more elegant term! It's smaller than a fanny pack though, it's a small pouch or purse that is strapped around the hips or waist. The pouch/purse can be a different accessory all together. It can be removable (clutch time) and interchangeable with different belts, but it can also come attached to a strap. It works better when sitting higher, it looks more sophisticated. Either way though, it's better than a fanny pack *shutter*.
